Jane Christyson has more than 30 years of nonprofit administration and management experience with a concentration in special events and corporate sponsorships. Most recently, she served as Director of Marketing and Golf Clubhouse Services for Cleveland Metroparks, where she has worked since 1989. In that position she oversaw the marketing, visual communications, visitor services, research and program evaluation, and golf clubhouse divisions. Her department had a $6 million operating budget, a total staff of 26 full time and 21 part time and approximately 175 seasonal employees, and won numerous local and national awards for writing, design, video production, marketing materials, events, programs and campaigns.
Jane began her career at United Way Services of Cleveland in 1980 and served in several capacities managing company fund-raising campaigns. She then became executive director of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 1984, a nonprofit health agency with a budget of $2 million.
Jane possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Cleveland State University. She graduated cum laude in 1979. She is a member of the Ohio InterMuseum Council, a board member of Cleveland Press Club, Ohio & Erie Canal Marketing Consortium, ALCOA Community Relations Board, a Girl Scout leader and is involved with other community projects.
She has served as a guest speaker at many local, national and international seminars and conferences, including: the Annual Conference of the National Parks and Recreation Association, the National Association of Interpretation Conference and Best Practices in Parks and Recreation Conference in Melbourne, Australia. She was also a marketing consultant with the Parque Natural Metropolitano, near Panama City, Panama and was invited to tour their park and work with their board and staff.
Jane is a resident of Strongsville, Ohio, where she lives with her husband Bob Mahoney and daughter Bridget, a Girl Scout. Jane was a Girl Scout for 10 years and earned the First Class Award (now known as the Gold Award). She has been a Girl Scout leader for seven years of Troop 71410 and has enjoyed working with the girls and watching them develop into leaders.
