Camp Hilaka will open for partial and limited use beginning October 9, 2009. Usage at Camp Julia Crowell is suspended through the 2009-2010 membership year.At the September 2, 2009 meeting of the GSNEO Board of Directors, the board voted to open Camp Hilaka for limited, partial use. The following sites are open for camping:
Hilaka is 137 acres of wooded gently rolling hills with hiking trails. It is adjacent to Camp Julia Crowell, a 243 acre camp. Hilaka was purchased to protect the shore of Lake Linnea in 1960. Hilaka has three multi-room houses, two single-room winterized cabins, two platform tent units and an Adirondack shelter unit. the dining hall and waterfront, with canoes and rowboats, are popular locations at this camp. Camp Julia Crowell is used primarly for programming, and features a bouncey-floor dance hall.
A year-round site having four bedrooms, four bathrooms, kitchen, pantry, dining room, living room with fireplace, open patio, covered porch with fireplace, fire circle, picnic tables, telephone, showers and hot & cold water. Capacity 24
A year-round site having dorm type sleeping area with bunk beds, two bathrooms, kitchen, activity room with wood burning stove, fire circle, picnic tables, showers, and hot & cold water. Capacity 20
