CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - (11/08/09) Host Harry Boomer takes a look at the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio with Dr. Daisy Alford-Smith.
Dr. Alford-Smith is the Chief Executive Officer with the regions girl scouts. She talked about the importance of teaching girls to be strong leaders.
Dr. Daisy Alford-Smith says the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) serves 40-thousand girls and 14-thousand adults in an 18-county region.
Girl Scouts has 3.6 million girl and adult members worldwide. The membership is for girls 5-17 and adults age 18 and older regardless of race, color, ethnicity, creed, national origin, socio-economic status, sex or disability who accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
The Girl Scouts seeks to build courage and character. Dr.Alford says girls join the Girl Scouts because it's fun, offers friendship and adventure, leadership opportunities, involves them in community service, helps them with skill development, challenges them, offers them a safe place and a sense of belonging. It's also teaches them financial literacy.
