GSNEO celebrate 2nd anniversary
GSNEO celebrates 2nd anniversary
October 7, 2009
Girl Scouts of North East Ohio is celebrating its two year anniversary. In October 2007, an historic transformation took place: Five Girl Scout councils in Northeast Ohio joined forces to better serve the girls of their communities. The union of Girl Scouts of Western Reserve, Erie Shores, Great Trail, Lake Erie, and Lake to River councils connected Girl Scouts from 18 counties in Northeast Ohio.
"As of our two-year anniversary, I am happy to report that our council is stronger than ever and growing at a steady pace," said Chief Executive Officer Daisy L. Alford Smith, Ph.D. "Our success can be traced directly to retention and increasing membership, fund development and our ability to reach girls from a wider range of backgrounds and communities. We've been successful in maintaining the mission and values of Girl Scouting while becoming more relevant and more efficient."
The rewards in Girl Scouting aren't just for girls, as volunteers can also reap the benefits. Girl Scout volunteers receive training and support, meet new friends and make valuable connections in the community, polish their current skills and develop new ones, and receive recognition from their peers.
