Daisy L. Alford-Smith, Ph.D.
For nearly 100 years, Girl Scouts has been a mainstay in our community, providing leadership development opportunities for thousands of girls each year. With approximately 54,000 members, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio is the largest, most active, female voluntary service organization in the region and among the largest Girl Scout Councils in the nation.
Our commitment is to remain relevant for these girls – to help them build courage, confidence, and character as they strive to choose the best life to lead. Then, as adults sustain the Girl Scout Movement for the next generation of girls.
For us, this means delivering programs that build skills for the 21st century, adapting to changes in family structure, embracing a global community, and keeping pace with technology. By pioneering Girl Scout programs in science and technology, financial literacy, healthy living, environmental awareness, and global citizenship, we are staying focused on what makes a strong leader in a rapidly changing world.
Looking forward to the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA on March 12, 2012, we are planning engaging events for girl and adult members to celebrate this historical milestone. This is the perfect opportunity to increase awareness of the Girl Scout Mission, programs and activities available to all girls throughout Northeast Ohio. Together, we can prove that an investment in Girl Scouts is broader than a cause or a cure. It’s a commitment to a the girls and women leaders of tomorrow.
As the CEO, I serve as a voice for our organization, to inform and educate others about the issues important to girls, and to tell people about the important work Girl Scouts do to make the world a better place. Our Girl Scouts, volunteers and alumnae also make great spokespeople when they share their experiences and encourage others to join. Here are some of our upcoming appearances:
