Macedonia, OH – Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) announces the Chair for its 18th annual Dessert First gala is one of its board members. Judith Matsko of North Royalton will lead in organizing the fundraising event that challenges chefs from around the region to create desserts featuring … you guessed it, Girl Scout Cookies!
“Judith will bring her own unique perspective to make this year’s Dessert Firsta success,” said GSNEO Chief Executive Officer Jane Christyson. “She has a wealth of experience planning and organizing fundraising events. That, coupled with her enthusiasm for Girl Scouts, it is a winning combination.”
A retired teacher and coach from Strongsville City Schools, Matsko is a recognized leader in the Greater Cleveland and Akron communities. She is currently the Development Director with Project EverGreen, a national organization whose mission is to preserve green space in our communities. With a history of community involvement volunteering with organizations, including the Children’s Hunger Alliance, Women in Touch with Akron’s Needs, American Heart Association Greater Cleveland, Cornerstone of Hope, the American Girl Fashion Show, and Girl Scouts, her leadership resume includes President of the Board of the NOH Chapter of Leukemia andLymphoma Society (LLS), and past President of the Junior League of Cleveland.
“I’m thrilled to be doing this,” said Matsko, “and even more excited to be part of an event that has been benefitting so many girls across northeast Ohio for 18 years.”
Dessert First will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Embassy Suites Cleveland-Rockside. A panel of celebrity judges will evaluate desserts on creativity, presentation and taste, before opening it up for all guests to sample, and enjoy dessert first. Past judges include Lisa Abraham, Food Writer for the Akron Beacon Journal, Allan Fee with Q104 FM, and Erika Lauren, co-host of The Alan Cox show on 100.7 FM. The evening will also include an elegant dinner, raffles, a silent auction, and socializing for over 500 guests.
