An exclusive opportunity for Girl Scouts of North East Ohio to explore the world of physically integrated dance alongside master teachers from The Dancing Wheels Company & School, America’s first dance Company that started this unique art form.
Girls will begin by getting to know each other and their teachers through a fun activity known as the “Name Game”. They will then explore the history of physically integrated dance and the way in which they can all dance together in an all-inclusive setting. In a small warm up and dance combination, the girls will see how wheelchair dancers can and do dance with their non-disabled partners.
Finally, In preparation for their trip to see the world premiere of the Dancing Wheels production of “Dumbo” the Scouts will have a “behind the scenes” opportunity to hear about the story and its themes related to bullying and learn a section of the dance!
The day will conclude with an Anti-bullying pledge that students will sign and get a copy to keep. All participants will be eligible for a special Girl Scout discount to see the production of “Dumbo” and post Dumbo’s Circus Celebration! All at the Saint Ignatius Breen Center on Saturday May 11, 2013.
