Girl Scouts of North East Ohio is looking for 50 participants, 10 from each region, to join the inaugural Key Women's Leadership Academy. For a century, Girl Scouts has provided quality leadership skills to its members. This new program was created to increase the number of Girl Scout volunteers with a broad and deep understanding of leadership development.
GSNEO anticipates that the Key Women’s Leadership Academy, made possible in part by a generous grant from the KeyBank Foundation, will have a profound and sustained benefit for our organization, our members and our communities. Not only will this program develop leadership skills among the participants, we have also built components into the program to ensure the transfer of knowledge and skills from participants to our entire membership.
The course work will be an intense, highly focused look at personal leadership, leadership in general as well as within the Girl Scouting organization. Leadership Academy sessions will be located both locally within a participant’s service area as well as 4 sessions held at a location central to our council. The academy will kick off with a mandatory retreat in January 2012. Sessions will be held monthly during the evening or on a Saturday and last approximately 3 hours. Participants must participate in the opening retreat and may only be excused from one of the monthly sessions.
Tuition for the Key Leadership Academy is $100. Half of this amount must be paid by the participant, with the remainder that may be paid by an outside organization. Tuition assistance is available. In addition participants will be asked to commit to assisting with a minimum of 3 programs or trainings a year for the next 3 years.
To create the most successful learning environment for the participants, applicants will be selected to represent the diversity of our membership; including, a variety of backgrounds, experiences, Girl Scout knowledge, age, race, socioeconomic status, etc. Applying for this opportunity does not ensure a candidate’s acceptance in the class.

One troop offers this Tip for Troops:
"Friendship Bracelet After School Recruiting Party"...
...Within the first few weeks of the new school year, setup times at each of the schools for a one hour "Friendship Bracelet After School Party" to be hosted by your troop. Be sure to organize this with your Service Unit Director and/or School Organizers.
Two troop meetings before the Friendship Party talk to your girls about the event. Get a commitment from each girl to invite / bring a friend(s) who is not yet involved in scouting to the "Friendship Party". Have the girls make a simple flyer that they can distribute to their friends and that their friends can return as an RSVP.
At the troop meeting right before your Friendship Party, ask the girls to report back their RSVP's. (optional: Have girls commit to making confirmation phone calls.)
*There are many options in which type of Friend Bracelet you make at the event. The most important thing to remember is, that you want to make an impact on both the girls you are recruiting and more importantly their parents. (Suggestion: Make beaded jewelry, using silver & semi precious stones, or the multi - colored beads Friendship Bracelet.)
During the Party have the girls in the troop talk about how much fun it is to be involved. Have new girls sign-up that day. Don't forget to ask the parents to get involved too.
