The purpose of recognition is to facilitate, acknowledge, credit or celebrate the achievements of volunteers. Whether the recognition is in the form of a simple thank-you for a small job well done or a formal commendation for years of faithful service in a key position of an organization, such acknowledgement is a signal to the recipient that she/he is noticed and appreciated - that she/he is recognized.
While a sincere word of thanks or a personalized note of appreciation is most rewarding, there may be an occasion to recognize an individual or a group that has given outstanding service. Awards are available to recognize an individual's contributions to Girl Scouts both from Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. and Girl Scouts of North East Ohio.

The Outstanding Leader Award recognizes troop/group leaders, assistant troop/group leaders, or group coordinators whose performance in working with girls is so outstanding that it merits recognition by the geographic or program delivery area.
The Outstanding New Volunteer Award recognizes the efforts of a volunteer who is new to Girl Scouting and has hit the ground running. This volunteer has been a registered member for a short time but has made a positive impact on Girl Scouting. This person's performance is so outstanding that it merits recognition at the local level.
The Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes an addult in a position other than leader or in addition to leader whose service benefits a geographic or program delivery unit in a way that is beyond the expectations for the position.
The Volunteer of Excellence award recognizes those volunteers who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway to implement the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through use of the national program portfolio or who have contributed outstanding support of the council's mission delivery to girl and adult members.
This award may be presented to Volunteers who are nominated after receiving the Appreciation, Honor, Thanks Badge, and Thanks Badge II.
The Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Award recognizes any registered Adult Girl Scout giving outstanding service to a Council-wide assignment, committee, or whose service and ddedication impacts the success and development of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience for Girl Scouts of North East Ohio.
The Appreciation Pin recognizes an individual's exemplary service in support of ddelivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. This service, which has had measureable impact on one geographic area of service, helps accomplish and surpass the mission-delivery goals of the area.
The Honor Pin recognizes an individual's exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, which has had measurable impact on two or more geographic areas of service, allowing the council to reach andd surpass its mission-delivery goals.
The Thanks Badge II recognizes an adult member who has previously received the Thanks Badge from any council and who has continued to contribute in extraordinary ways that benefit the total Council or the entire Girl Scout Movement.
The President's Award recognizes the efforts of a service unit, geographic area, or program delivery team in moving its assigned area or audience toward achievement of Girl Scouts of North East Ohio goals during the membership year.
