Girl Scouts Kicks Off Next Century of Female Entrepreneurs with 2018 Cookie Season

Macedonia, Ohio – There’s even more to celebrate when we ring in the New Year in 2018 – the second century of Girl Scout Cookies! The largest girl-led business in the world kicks off locally for Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) on January 3, 2018.

Time and technology have changed the way Girl Scout Cookies are sold.  In the past, orders were gathered door-to-door and then delivered about eight weeks later.  Today, cookies are sold in person as well as online through the Digital Cookie® platform.  Girl Scouts send their cookie customers an email with a link to their personalized site, where they can order cookies to be delivered, shipped, or donated to the military.

Girl Scouts who use the platform in addition to traditional sales reach their goals faster – which is altogether awesome! The five skills girls learn: Goal setting, decision making, money management, business ethics, and people skills are all important aspects of the cookie program.

“We are building the next century of tech savvy female entrepreneurs,” said Jane Christyson, CEO for Girl Scouts of North East Ohio.  “By participating in the Girl Scout Cookie sale, Girl Scouts earn funds for their chosen activities while learning key skills that will help them in business and life.  They learn to handle money and make decisions about how to use it.  That means they’ll learn about spending, saving, and giving to those in need.”

Each and every purchase of Girl Scout Cookies – 100 percent of the net revenue of which stays local – is an investment in girls and their leadership capabilities, both now and in the future. Every box sold helps power unique and amazing experiences for the girls who sell them – it also gives her the opportunity to become a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) ™ who soars in courage, confidence, and character, while making the world a better place.

This year’s lineup includes the classic favorites: Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-si-dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles for $4 per box, as well as the $5 gluten-free Toffee Tastic and S’mores cookies.  With its debut last season, the Girl Scout S’mores became the most popular flavor to launch in the 100 years of Girl Scouts selling cookies!
