Our GSNEO Media Girls program is designed to provide all Girl Scouts in Northeast Ohio with hands-on experience in developing communication skills while they explore the ever-changing media environment.
Our Media Girls team is made up of 32 Girl Scouts who help promote and create content about the incredible things that Girl Scouts do in our council. The girls work with our Marketing and Communications team and other industry experts to learn about different media types and how to create fun and exciting content!
Media Girls across our 18-county footprint receive special training in all things media, empowering them to be the official reporters and ambassadors for council and community events, news opportunities, and officially represent GSNEO as they share our stories with the Girl Scout community and the world.
Members serve as the faces and voices of GSNEO in various media outlets. As a member of the GSNEO Media Girl team, Girl Scouts have the chance to:
- Participate in media interviews and related opportunities (radio, TV, and print).
- Represent Girl Scouts at special council and community events.
- Represent GSNEO in council commercials, videos, and print features.
- Speak at local events.
- Explore interests in writing, public relations, public speaking, journalism, marketing, photography, and more.
- Write articles and shoot photos/videos.
- And of course, have fun and make new friends!

Media Girl Requirements 
- All Girl Scout levels can audition and participate.
- Girls must be registered GSNEO members and be willing to attend trainings, quarterly meetings, and share their Girl Scout story.
- If selected, Media Girls must participate in three (3) Media Challenges per Girl Scout Membership year.
- Must be responsive to council – sometimes council has a tight turnaround time to get girls to media, so caregivers/girls must accept or decline a media opportunity ASAP or we will move on and ask another Media Girl. It is critical to provide responsive contact information that is checked regularly throughout the day.
- Must write one (1) essay OR blog post about what they learned each year as a Media Girl. (No requirements, we are looking for a general write up of what the Media Girl learned/experienced through the program.)
- Must audition and must have caregiver approval to participate.
- Girls must have a good knowledge of GSNEO and Girl Scouts in general as they may have to talk about different topics – camp, cookies, programs, troop activities, trips, etc. Council will provide key talking points, but general Girl Scout knowledge is required.
- Must represent Girl Scouts in an appropriate manner. Council staff reserve the right to dismiss a Media Girl from the program should she be involved in inappropriate conduct.
- Meetings are held periodically to keep Media Girls informed and to review any upcoming opportunities. Additionally, we’ll like to meet to discuss what girls have learned, ideas they have, and to cheer each other on. Accepted Media Girls must attend three (3) out of four (4) quarterly Media Girl meetings as well as fall training session.
Note: It is preferred Media Girls have a parent or caregiver who has a current Girl Scout membership available to participate with them. Caregivers also commit to helping:
- Share media initiatives on social media, and
- Provide transportation to press events and support to Media Girl as needed.

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2025-2027 MEDIA GIRLS!
We have open spots for our 2025-2027 Media Girl Program! To audition, please:
- Complete this Jotform
- Submit a two-minute video* telling us: why you want to be in the Media Girls program, what you want the world to know about Girl Scouts, and what skills you hope to develop through your participation in the program.
Please submit her video via your YouTube account* and send the video link to marketing@gsneo.org with the subject titled “Media Girl Program 2025”. Applications are accepted September 2 - October 10, 2025 and Media Girls will be notified if selected by mid-October.
Please note, if selected as a 2025 Media Girl, there is a required media training and photoshoot on November 8, 2025.
