Camp at Home

What is Camp at Home?

These themed, age level specific, camp programs are comprised of twice daily virtual sessions (Monday – Thursday) conducted on Zoom by GSNEO Camp at Home staff and daily “YOYO” (You’re On Your Own) activities for campers to do away from their screens. A virtual all-camp campfire with songs and skits will be offered on Wednesday evening for campers to attend with their families. Specialty supplies needed to complete daily program activities will be provided in a “Camp at Home Kit” which will be mailed directly to camper’s home using the address provided during the online registration process.

Example of a Camp at Home schedule:

Monday: Morning Zoom session; YOYO activity; Afternoon Zoom session

Tuesday: Morning Zoom session; YOYO activity; Afternoon Zoom session

Wednesday: Morning Zoom session; YOYO activity; Afternoon Zoom session; Evening All-Camp Campfire

Thursday: Morning Zoom session; YOYO activity; Afternoon Zoom session

(*Note: The Moonlight Madness program sessions will be in the afternoon and at night each day, instead of in the morning and afternoon like all other programs.)

Notes on length of sessions:

Daisy and Brownie Zoom sessions = 1 hour each for a total of 2 hours of Zoom sessions per day (+ the hour-long campfire on Wednesday evening)

Junior – Senior Zoom sessions = 1.5 hours in the morning, 2 hours in the afternoon for a total of 3.5 hours of Zoom sessions per day (+ the hour-long campfire on Wednesday evening)

Who will lead Camp at Home sessions?

Morning, afternoon, and evening Zoom sessions will be facilitated by GSNEO Camp at Home staff. GSNEO Camp at Home staff is comprised of veteran Camp Timberlane and Camp Ledgewood summer camp staff, so if your camper has attended summer camp before, she will see some familiar faces!

YOYO (You’re On Your Own) activities are to be done by campers on their own or with the assistance of an adult in their home.

What will staff-led Zoom sessions consist of?

Sessions will include but are not limited to:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Badge work
  • Games
  • Socializing with new camp friends
  • STEM activities
  • Team building
  • Traditional camp activities (like classic camp songs/skits)
  • And more!
Will my camper earn a badge during her Camp at Home program?

Programs that specifically include a badge in the program description will earn that badge over the course of the Camp at Home program. Badges will be included in the camp kits of these specific programs.

Does my camper require a chaperone in order to participate in Camp at Home?

Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts require an adult chaperone to attend Zoom sessions. Adult chaperones will assist their camper with the tasks that GSNEO Camp at Home staff will be leading live on Zoom such as arts and crafts, STEM activities, etc.

What technology does my camper need access to in order to participate in Camp at Home?

Campers must have access to reliable internet and a computer with a microphone and a camera to participate in the Zoom sessions. Campers must have a current email address (either their own or a household caregiver’s) that can be checked daily. GSNEO Camp at Home staff will use this email to send daily Zoom invitations and passwords so that campers can safely participate in each session.

What additional supplies does my camper need in order to participate in Camp at Home?

Camp at Home campers will receive a camp kit in the mail. The box will contain specialized items needed to participate in activities. Please ensure correct mailing address during online registration process. These items and shipping costs are included in the program fee.

A list of general supplies needed that will not be included in the camp kit (i.e. pencils, crayons, etc.) will be emailed to the camper before her week of Camp at Home sessions begin.

How will Camp at Home staff stay in communication with my camper during the week?

Campers must have a current email address (either their own or a household caregiver’s) that can be checked daily. GSNEO Camp at Home staff will use this email to send daily Zoom invitations and passwords so that campers can safely participate in each session. Additional emails with reminders, further instructions, etc. will also be sent prior to your camper’s Camp at Home program as well as during the week it is in session.

How will I know what time my camper’s Zoom sessions begin each day?

GSNEO Camp at Home staff will send daily Zoom invitations and passwords to camper’s email addresses. Zoom invitations include the start time of the session. See above (“What is Camp at Home”) for more details about how long Zoom sessions last. Additionally, Zoom session start and end time details are outlined in your camper’s Camp At Home program description. Program descriptions can be found on the Events List page.

What Camp at Home program is my camper eligible to attend?

To ensure the best Camp at Home experience for our campers, programs are strictly organized by age level. Please register your camper based on the grade she will be entering in the fall.

Age Level Grade in Fall 2020
Daisy K - 1
Brownie 2 - 3
Junior 4 - 5
Cadette 6 - 8
Senior 9 - 10

Notes:

We have not scheduled summer Camp at Home sessions for Ambassador Girl Scouts (grades 11 – 12).

If your camper is in a bridging year, she can attend program for either her current age level or the age level she will be for Fall 2020. For example: If your camper was a Brownie in 3rd grade this spring and will be a Junior in 4th grade this fall, she has the option to attend program for either age level this summer.

What do I do after I register my camper for a Camp at Home program?

First, check that you received email confirmation of your registration. Sometimes registration confirmations can get lost in Junk Mail.

Then, complete the GSNEO Camp at Home Internet Safety Pledge and Camp at Home Photo Waiver Jot Forms on this webpage (campers must have both forms filled out in order to participate in their Camp at Home program).

Lastly, keep an eye on your camper’s email for more details, information, and Zoom invitations from GSNEO Camp at Home Staff.

What if I do not have the technology available to participate in Camp at Home/what if I do not want my camper to spend time on Zoom this summer?

GSNEO has two other camp experiences available for girls wishing to limit their screen-time this summer. Check out our Badge in a Box and Family Activity Kit options!
