What is Vivian von Gruenigen, MD STEM Center of Excellence? 
Where is it located?
The STEM Center of Excellence is located on the Daley Family Campus for STEM Innovation at Camp Ledgewood in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. (6751 Akron Peninsula Rd, Peninsula, OH 44264).
Conveniently located, Camp Ledgewood is a half-hour drive for 51 percent of the Girl Scout members throughout our 18-county footprint.

What are the different spaces?
This 8,000-square-feet STEM Center of Excellence offers innovative program space, that empowers Girl Scouts and students to dive into STEM, unleash their creativity, and explore future career possibilities. Including a wet lab, tech workshop, multipurpose space, outdoor classrooms, and an observatory for stargazing. Even a bonus green roof that provides an innovative space for studying alternative energy.
Wet Lab
The Wet Lab is a state-of-the-art science lab where Girl Scouts and students can engage with Biology, Chemistry, and Ecology through hands-on learning experiences. The Wet Lab offers professional-grade lab equipment, dissection tools, magnifying glasses, multiple types of microscopes, testing equipment, and more.
Workshop
The Workshop houses many tools you would find in a woodshop, along with digital fabrication machines that bring the world of construction and manufacturing to the 21st century. Girl Scouts and students learn about engineering and the design process as they build bird houses, talk about career options as they solder mini metal sculptures, and are amazed as they see their designs come to life with our professional-grade laser engraver.
Multipurpose Room and Lobby
The Multipurpose Room is a flexible space for everything from board meetings and STEM programs to field trip lunches and professional development. Seating up to 36, it features an accordion white board wall that can divide the room into two separate spaces. While the STEM Center lobby is packed with interactive fun, including a Dynamic Floor, biomimicry-inspired learning displays, and EcoQuest, a video game that explores alternative energy. These hands-on experiences engage visitors of all ages in STEM learning.
Tech Lab and Green Room
The Tech Lab is where robotics comes to life! Girl Scouts and students can explore a wide range of learning robots, from simple color-sensing bots to robotic arms modeled after the advanced machines used in modern manufacturing. Along the way, they build coding, problem-solving, and technology skills through hands-on challenges and creative projects. The adjoining Green Room supports green screen projects, stop-motion animation, podcasting recording.
Observatory
The Observatory is home to a Celestron 1100 XD Telescope and fully retractable roof. This state-of-the-art digital system can be used to see planets, stars, and moons with the touch of a button. The telescope has a camera feature to capture the nights sky, a solar lens to safely observe the sun, and the ability to cast these images to screens inside the STEM Center building.
Continue the exploration of the night sky with STARLAB, a twenty-foot-tall inflatable planetarium. It is able to fit 15-25 children at a time to explore the night sky with astronomy software and a specialized dome projection system.
