What is a Service Unit?

The Service Unit Director is the key volunteer representative for Girl Scout operations within a service unit. She/he provides leadership to the service unit team and is responsible for retaining and extending membership to all girls and approved adult volunteers within a geographic area, and for supporting program opportunities consistent with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

The Service Unit Treasurer manages the service unit’s funds, and assists with budgeting and financial planning, in accordance with GSUSA’s and GSNEO’s financial policies.

Service Unit PR Coordinator toggle arrow

Service Unit PR Coordinators generate leads at the service unit level, act as brand advocates in their communities, and implement the council-wide recruitment marketing campaigns. The PR Coordinator and council’s Recruitment and Marketing teams work in tandem to implement plans and tactics that support the recruitment of girl and adult members.

Service Unit Troop Mentor toggle arrow

The Service Unit Troop Mentor establishes new troops within the service unit. The Troop Mentor and Community Support Coordinators work in tandem to facilitate parent meetings to encourage participation and identify direct primary roles, then help them get started in their new roles.

Service Unit Registrar toggle arrow

Service Unit Registrars educate members and assist with membership registration and renewal as well as maintain accurate record-keeping within the service unit. The Service Unit Registrar works in tandem with council staff to ensure all participants are approved, registered Girl Scout members.

Service Unit Product Distribution Manager toggle arrow

This Service Unit Product Distribution Manager organizes and distributes program materials, products, and rewards from the cookie and fall product programs.

Service Unit Juliette Coordinator toggle arrow

The Service Unit Juliette Coordinator provides a communication link for Juliettes (individually registered girls) and their families about local Service Unit activities/events and Girl Scouts of North East Ohio program opportunities in which they may choose to participate. They ensure that the Juliettes receive ongoing support while participating in activities/events (such as earning grade level recognitions/awards, Cookie Program, Fall Product Program Sale, etc.) during the membership year.

The Service Unit Membership Delegate represents the service unit on governance matters and serves as a voting member of the GSNEO General Assembly.

Service Unit Support Volunteers toggle arrow

The Service Unit Support Volunteer assists the service unit in various ways depending on their interests and the needs of the service unit. Can be general support or include service unit specific role such as Secretary, Community Liaison, GSLE Coach, Event Planner.
