What Can You Do with your Troop in the Summer?
With school over and summer in full swing, you may be wondering just what to do with your troop this summer to keep the Girl Scout spirit going! There are of course many things to do from volunteering at local organizations, taking trips in and around Northeast Ohio, to taking hikes and completing badges or patches together throughout the summer.
Here are some ideas to get started on your summer of fun:
- Visit our camps and try out On My Own Activities where girls can enjoy our camps and even earn badges or patches for some activities.
- Start working on one of Girl Scouts of North East Ohio’s own Patch Program! We offer a few different opportunities for girls to learn about being better stewards of the environment, make healthy choices, get to know our camps while going on a hike, and more.
- Search Resource Partners for things to do around Northeast Ohio. These local organizations are providing Girl Scout opportunities and activities all year round!
- Camp with your troop with CORE Camps, available at both Camp Ledgewood and Camp Timberlane. CORE Camp is a great opportunity for troops to camp for a weekend while the resident camp staff is there to provide programming and support. This is a perfect weekend for new troop leaders, a troop’s first campout, or any troop that just wants to have a fun and relaxing weekend!
- Complete the Girl Scouts Love the Outdoor Challenge and earn the Outdoor Challenge Patch.
- Join us at Adult Learning Experience (A.L.E.) August 9-12! Want to up your Girl Scout Volunteer game or need to brush up on some camp skills? This is the place to experience camp geared toward adults! Class options include Outdoor Essentials, First Aid/CPR, varied outdoor cooking methods, using a commercial kitchen, conflict resolution for girls and adults, age-level-specific tips for troop volunteers, and so much more!
- Plan for next year. Think about what your girls enjoyed or didn’t enjoy and start planning ahead on how to make their next year of Girl Scouting amazing and memorable.
- Do some community service. Here are some ideas:
- Plant trees or flowers in your neighborhood. Record the trees you plant here to count towards GSUSA’s Girl Scout Tree Promise.”
- Pick up litter at the beach or a park.
- Have girls who love running? Organize a group to enter a 5K!
- Do a food/clothes/toy/book donation drive.
- Bring treats or make a craft for a retirement home.
- Start a pen pal project with another troop or individual Girl Scout.
