Position Description toggle arrow

The Membership Delegate is elected by her/his girl and adult constituents to serve as their voting representative in matters related to the governance of Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO). The membership delegate is entrusted with the responsibility of sharing information, as referred to her/him by the Council leadership, and then utilizing her/his communication skills and an open mind to gather feedback from her/his constituents. She/he must understand the issues and concerns of her/his constituents as well as appreciate Council-wide issues in order to think globally for the good of the entire organization.

Serve two (2) years or until her/his successor is elected and assumes office.

Delegate Orientation – 4 hours
Delegate Conference Calls or Webinars – One hour, on average, as needed.
Service Unit Assignments – Represent Service Unit that elects her/him. A Membership Delegate is responsible for:
- Maintaining consistent communication with the Service Unit.
- Attending service unit meeting as requested by the Service Unit Director or GSNEO Council Leadership.
Annual Meeting of the General Assembly – One (1) per year.
Service Unit Membership Meetings – at least one (1) per year.

Training

Girl Scouting 101 or Volunteering for Series and Events (for membership delegates who are adults).
Delegate Orientation

Responsibilities toggle arrow

Act as a channel for two-way communication between constituents and Council leadership.
Understand her/his constituencies’ issues and concerns as well as appreciate Council-wide issues and needs in order to think globally for the good of the entire organization.
Understand corporate functions, including being able to review and understand any Council financial reports provided.
Attend Annual meeting of the General Assembly of the Council. Attend special meetings as called in accordance with the GSNEO Bylaws. Attend Service Unit Membership Meeting(s). Participate in Service Unit meetings as requested.
Participate in Membership Delegate conference calls or webinars.
Participate in training for this position.
Elect the Officers of the Board of Directors, the Directors-at-Large of the Board of Directors, the members of the Board Development Committee, and the Delegates and Alternate Delegate(s) to the National Council of Girls Scouts of the United States of America, in accordance with the procedures outlined in the GSNEO Bylaws.
Participate in votes to amend or revise the Articles of Incorporation and the GSNEO Bylaws as presented at meetings of the General Assembly of the Council.
Submit proposals to the Board of Directors to improve the quality of Girl Scouting.
Promote the organization’s programs, services and goals to the community-at-large.

Excellent communication skills including the ability to facilitate small group discussions.
Is organized and punctual.
Is able to present information, ideas, and facts clearly, and accurately, answer questions, and gather feedback without personal bias.
Will provide a safe and welcoming environment.
Is comfortable working independently as well as with a team.
Has the ability and willingness to use email and the Internet for communication with staff.
Has a desire to work towards the betterment of the organization as a whole.

Maintain membership in the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., through GSNEO.
- Annually - $25
- Lifetime (Ages 30+) - $400 (encouraged)
- Young Alumnae Lifetime Membership (Ages 18 to 29) - $200
Travel and expenses at individual’s expense.
Be alert to GSNEO related concerns that can be addressed by GSNEO mission, objectives, and programs.
